Unique to Lutherans, Reformation Day, October 25, celebrates Martin Luther posting the 95 thesis on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany, in 1517. Most scholars recognize this event and date as the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. While Luther’s intent was to begin public debate on the use of “Indulgences” – the purchase of forgiveness of sins – his actions initiated many church reforms that are still happening today.
In celebration of Reformation Sunday, please plan to wear red.
