Luke 1:39-45
39 In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, 40 where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit 42 and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. 43 And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? 44 For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. 45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.”
And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit 42 and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
I have had wonderful colleagues everyplace that I’ve served. It’s such a blessing to know that, when you’re in trouble, you have sisters and brothers in ministry who will offer whatever you need at any time. Those same colleagues have served as sounding boards and advisors in every major decision I’ve made. God has a way of giving us to each other as gifts when we need each other the most.
When God called Mary to be the mother of Jesus, the angel told her that Elizabeth was also expecting a child. With that message, God gave Mary and Elizabeth to each other for encouragement and support. Before Mary had physical confirmation of her own pregnancy, she was able to see that what the angel told her about Elizabeth was true. And Elizabeth was blessed to be the first to greet the Christ Child.
Prayer: God, Our Perfect Parent: Thank you for putting us in each others’ way just when we need it the most. AMEN
