Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14
9As I watched,
thrones were set in place,
and an Ancient One took his throne,
his clothing was white as snow,
and the hair of his head like pure wool;
his throne was fiery flames,
and its wheels were burning fire.
10A stream of fire issued
and flowed out from his presence.
A thousand thousands served him,
and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him.
The court sat in judgment,
and the books were opened.
13As I watched in the night visions,
I saw one like a human being
coming with the clouds of heaven.
And he came to the Ancient One
and was presented before him.
14To him was given dominion
and glory and kingship,
that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion
that shall not pass away,
and his kingship is one
that shall never be destroyed.
“… His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingship is one
that shall never be destroyed. …”
Daniel’s apocalyptic vision prefigures the coming of Christ. Jesus, who is King of King and Lord of heaven and earth, will reign forever. His kingdom will know no end. That is the image portrayed in Daniel’s prophetic words.
Of course, we all know this already. As people of faith, we recognize Jesus as the Son of God. Through His Incarnation, He ushers in the kingdom of heaven; and by His suffering, death, and resurrection opens the gates of that kingdom to all. We are the recipients of that wondrous gift.
So Daniel’s words should come as no surprise. Instead, they should encourage and inspire our continued faith and trust in our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him, we not only have life now but the promise of life eternal. Indeed, His dominion will last forever and ever, and His kingdom will know no end.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your gift of everlasting life, To You I give glory, honor, and praise today and always. Amen.
